[06:30:07]<jpic>hi, where is the dwm build for windows?
[06:32:18]<surrounder>jpic: http://www.brain-dump.org/projects/dwm-win32/
[06:34:09]<jpic>thanks for the fast reply surrounder
[06:34:20]<surrounder>np :)
[08:51:57]<dpb>http://ostatic.com/blog/is-wikipedias-deletionism-out-of-control
[09:51:02]<mxey>Is there some document describing the differences between make and mk?
[09:52:41]<nsz>see external links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_(software)
[10:01:11]<dibb>you sure that article hasn't been deleted yet? :)
[10:02:17]<nsz>mk is a notable software :)
[10:06:11]<Knirch>christ, just read the deletion discussion (2nd nomination), wtf?
[10:12:26]<kfx>oh good this again
[10:16:43]<nsz>"xmonad is a dwm rewrite[citation needed]" lol
[10:25:42]<arg>there is surre
[10:25:51]<arg>there is surely some archived mail in dwm
[10:25:55]<arg>where zm
[10:26:00]<arg>xmonad had been announced
[10:26:11]<arg>(sorry typing with one hand)
[10:26:15]<nsz>it's already referenced
[10:26:30]<nsz>so i removed that {{cn}}
[11:47:55]<kalzu>is there problem whit dwm using fibonacci and pertag patch:es together? or is it just me doing something stupid =)
[11:51:54]<dibb>dunno, but you're not the first that has complained about <some layout> + pertag
[11:59:05]<kalzu>err... before "$ patch -p1 < dwm-5.7.2-pertag.diff" "make clean install" work just fine... ...now it complain something about "fibonacci.c:6: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type"...
[12:01:02]<kalzu>and there is 9 lines that type off errors
[14:51:25]<Surma>amuse me, I'm bored
[14:57:03]<nsz>read http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/current-work
[15:02:27]<arg>nsz: that stuff is all quite hardcore
[15:09:02]<Surma>I was actually aiming for amusement... not for braindeadness ^^

[20:48:25]<bros>I am slowly starting to realize that everything GNU supports a lot of things that I do not use. Is BSD the answer?
[20:48:48]<MP2E>I like BSD
[20:49:25]<bros>Is BSD fast for the desktop? I am not worried about security because I do not have anything of value. I am just interested in speed.
[20:50:18]<MP2E>Yes, I used to run FreeBSD on my old 1GHZ computer and it was great
[20:50:28]<MP2E>the ocmpile times from ports were really long, but once it got running it blazed
[20:52:03]<bros>I am on a Pentium III 500MHz machine with 128MB of RAM and an 8GB 5400RPM hard drive. I can honestly say it does not run any slower than my Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB of RAM.
[20:52:26]<bros>I am only running dwm and surf. Occassionally I run rtorrent and watch a nice video with mplayer.
[20:52:30]<MP2E>Excellent
[20:52:35]<MP2E>Well I'd have to say to get benchmarks
[20:52:38]<MP2E>but I found FreeBSD very very fast
[20:52:47]<MP2E>Though I did not compare it on that machine with a minimalist linux either
[20:52:54]<MP2E>So I can't provide you numbers, sorry :/
[20:55:51]<bros>right now I am on Arch Linux and it runs great, but I realized it has a lot of things I do not use. way too many dependencies with mplayer to simply play movies from the command line, HAL for input hotplugging for X, glibc, bash
[20:56:07]<MP2E>Yeah Arch is great, I compile my own MPlayer though
[20:56:24]<bros>i know i do not need to and i would probably be wasting my time for little results, but should i try and get things down?
[20:56:32]<bros>different libc, different shell
[20:56:42]<bros>Does suckless provide coreutils?
[20:56:59]<Nal>9base
[20:57:13]<Nal>nothing differs, you can just install bash
[20:57:19]<Nal>and everything else
[20:58:23]<bros>Is Plan9 very good when speaking in terms of code?
[20:59:08]<MP2E>I think plan9 is fantastic, I've never used 9base myself though
[21:03:37]<bros>Is plan9 good for desktop use?
[21:03:50]<kfx>no it only works on laptops
[21:05:30]<bros>Is there a graphical web browser that does not reqire a graphical toolkit (GTK/Qt) but renders web pages to look somewhat like a modern browser?
[21:06:18]<kfx>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Plan_9_applications
[21:06:21]<kfx>there you go buddy
[21:06:34]<kfx>any other questions google can answer for you while I have a browser window open
[21:07:16]<MP2E>Hmm I don't know about a graphical web browser
[21:07:18]<MP2E>That's a good question
[21:07:46]<bros>I think the answer is no.
[21:08:18]<MP2E>I think so too unfortunately
[21:08:40]<bros>I like surf a lot. I like everything suckless does. :P
[21:08:43]<bros>Is GTK bloated?
[21:09:21]<jessta>bros: define bloated
[21:09:24]<Nal>im just a noob and all, but you would still need HAL because its a dependency for X and glibc because everything uses it bros
[21:10:12]<bros>Nal: You are probably more right and I am probably more noob.
[21:10:34]<bros>jessta: Heavy on resource usage.
[21:11:21]<jessta>what do you define as heavy?
[21:11:30]<MP2E>well you can see his specs above
[21:11:32]<MP2E>they are quite low
[21:11:39]<kfx>he's not equipped to answer that question
[21:12:22]<bros>I am not equipped to answer that question?
[21:12:22]<MP2E>anyhow glibc is required yes, but I saw that a bionic port for stali is a google summer of code project, so I'm excited for that (hope someone picks it up!)
[21:13:42]<bros>Do you have to download Android to see bionic?
[21:14:19]<MP2E>I don't know, I will check actually
[21:14:26]<bros>I checked. I think the answer is yes.
[21:14:36]<MP2E>ah
